Charming old pub overlooking the village green with keen young licensees, real ales and enjoyable food. Picnic sets outside this tile-hung 16th-c village pub look over the village green and cricket pitch - it's a lovely spot. Inside, the enthusiastic young licensees have gently refurbished the bars and dining room keeping plenty of charm and character. The simple, traditional bar, bustling with chatting locals and their dogs at the weekend, has leather-topped bar stools by the counter where they serve Greene King IPA and Abbot and a changing guest beer on handpump, several wines by the glass and farm cider, and there are beams, a mix of wooden chairs and tables on the parquet flooring and an inglenook fireplace. Open right up its apex, the dining room is spacious and airy with church candles and fresh flowers on light wood dining chairs and tables and a smart but relaxed feel; a couple of comfortable sofas face each other in front of an open woodburning stove.
